The House of Arts and Culture
In 2007, Gaia-Heritage was contracted by the Lebanese Ministry of Culture to act as its consultant for the conception of the “House of Arts and Culture (the Lebanese-Omani centre)” in Beirut. The Centre, funded by a grant of 20 million US dollars from the Sultanate of Oman, is meant to cover a wide range of arts such as Media and Visual Arts, Performing Arts, Music and Literature etc., the first of such cultural facilities in Lebanon.
During the first phase of the project, Gaia-Heritage and its consultants worked on the concept of the Centre, its cultural strategy, educational objectives and scientific programme. In 2008, Gaia launched an International Architectural Competition with the International Union of Architects, eventually won by Albert Catalano. Although the project was ready for implementation, the political context in Lebanon considerably slowed down the working progress.
Gaia-Heritage will update the architectural project, select with the client the engineering company and prepare for the building permit. Then, a contracting company will be selected and works will start.
