Red Sea Strategy

Saudi Arabia’s ‘RED SEA Strategy’ aims to develop the Red Sea coast in order to enhance tourism. The site being an extremely complex system of intertwined ecological, historical and social interests, the Strategy provides a framework for stakeholders on how to achieve sustainable tourism through the optimal use of potential attractions sources, which constitute important economic, environmental and social assets for local communities and for the region as a whole.

GAIA-Heritage has been subcontracted by Tourism Leisure & Sports (T&L) to provide an external technical expertise in the elaboration of the ‘Red Sea Tourism Development Strategy Review’. Its role was to (a) review and update the Red Sea Tourism Development Strategy taking into account the broader ‘General Strategy for the Development of National Tourism’, and (b) to formulate a realistic action plan along with an identification of the tools needed to insure its proper implementation.
