MEDITERRANEAN URBAN OBSERVATORY

The Mediterranean Urban Observatory (MUO) was created by GAIA-heritage in 2014 with the purpose of acting as a platform for research, documentation and publication on urban issues in the Mediterranean. Focussing on urban strategies, governance and the political economy of cities, it gives particular attention to social justice. The aim of the Observatory is to develop research and contribute to knowledge and “best practices”  through its website, publications, dissemination, training and consultancy services and advocacy in Mediterranean cities. To reinforce the capacities of the Observatory, GAIA-heritage and the Lebanese American University (LAU) signed an agreement of cooperation in June 2016 through which the LAU will host the Observatory and will provide it with all necessary intellectual and material support. The Observatory will benefit from GAIA-heritage experience and international network; it will host interns and doctoral researchers and will build a network of cooperating institutions.
