Visiting the past, meeting the LIMES
Gaia Heritage contributed with the University of Leuven (Belgium) and Wageningen University (Netherlands) to the organisation of an international conference: ‘Visiting the past, meeting the LIMES – An international symposium on heritage, tourism, planning and design practices’.
The Symposium, held in October 2007, dealt with the Control of Tourism in Heritage Sites, taking the LIMES as an example for the management and planning of intangible and tangible heritage in the context of a process of touristification. The conference gathered experts from a wide disciplinary background, thereby aiming to acquire a better knowledge and understanding of the multiple meanings and uses of heritage today. It explored the ways in which planning and design practices can optimise these various meanings and uses, thereby satisfying stakeholders’ diverging interests.
