Museum of the Land of Frankincense

For the Diwan of His Majesty the Sultan of Oman, GAIA-heritage conceived, designed and developed the programme of the Frankincense Land Museum. Its installation in the World Heritage site of Al-Balid, in the southern town of Salalah, required a comprehensive strategy to adapt to the surroundings, and a strict supervision of the work. The museum now includes two halls:

– the History Hall, presenting an overview of the Sultanate with a special section on Frankincense and its World Heritage Sites;

– the Maritime Hall, celebrating the thousand-years-old relationship between the Omanis and the sea, and presenting their seafaring genius. A workshop was specially created for the later, in which Omani carpenters were trained in the construction of scale-models of local traditional boats. GAIA also conceived a simplified star navigation simulation, in order for visitors to understand the great traditions on which modern science is based. For more information, please click here.
