The creative economy is one of the most rapidly growing sector today. Therefore, it can be used as a tool to achieve development through its high potential for job creation, income generation and export earnings.

GAIA-Heritage was contacted by UNESCO to contribute to the Creative Economy Report 2013.  In this context, GAIA produced a detailed report on the reality of creative economies in the Arab Region. In selecting relevant cases of ‘Best Practices’, GAIA adopted a cross-border approach highlighting the shared dimension of Mashreq countries’ cultural heritage.
