Management and Economics of Cultural and Natural Heritage

GAIA-Heritage offers an innovative approach to the management of cultural and natural heritage, combining protection and preservation while taking into account the economic realities of running such projects, especially with regard to accessibility to end-users. Therefore, our approach is twofold:

Consultancy by experts (be they individuals or institutions) covering all economic aspects of heritage management, from the protection of an asset to its valorization, i.e. from defining a concept to seeing it throught as a tangible project, including local staff training. This involves:

  • Delimitating sites and areas to be protected
  • Drawing up protection procedures and preparing nomination files
  • Designing management plans
  • Conducting feasibility and cost-effectiveness studies
  • Identifying and studying sites in view of their inclusion in the local or national economy, and undertaking use optimization studies
  • Preparing presentations and museological referencing
  • Conceiving and installing museums and art centers
  • Preparing tourism plans and programs of activities
  • Designing communication strategies

Project management and implementation of heritage sites and of up-market tourism, involving:

  • Setting up the necessary institutional structures
  • Staff training
  • Implementing economic control procedures (quality control, marketing, economic networking and impact optimization)
  • Organizing upmarket yet sustainable tourism development plans
