Appeal to save Baalbeck, a UNESCO World Heritage site in danger

An initiative launched by Change Lebanon, in partnership with the Baalbeck International Festival, the National Heritage Foundation, Gaia-heritage and The Lebanese British Friends of the National Museum.

Representatives of cultural institutions and specialized organisations, archaeologists and heritage specialists, academics, writers, artists and concerned global citizens—signed the appeal to demand immediate action from all stakeholders of the Middle East conflict, including states, non-state actors, international organizations, and local communities, to protect the city of Baalbeck and its archaeological complex, inscribed as a UNESCO world heritage site since 1984.

Following UNESCO’s decision on November 18, 2024 to place 34 Lebanese sites under reinforced protection and then the establishment of a ceasefire, the receipt of signatures is closed.
