Management and Economics of Cultural and Natural Heritage

Cultural Heritage Documentation

The Sultanate of Oman has many cultural and archaeological heritage sites. However, this heritage has never been scientifically documented and its inventory is incomplete.

In 2007, the Ministry of Culture and Heritage in Oman contracted Gaia-Heritage to prepare a methodology and work-plan for the documentation and inventory of its heritage.

Using technologies such as GPS, GIS and WEB 2.0, Gaia meticulously explored the different possibilities that would best suit the case of the Sultanate, taking into account its socio-economic context as well as resources and important links between the tangible and intangible forms of heritage.
